Vet Approved homemade dog food recipe (This makes about 16 cups)
*I used a 10qt instant pot for this recipe
Ingredients:
-5-6 pounds of ground turkey
-7.5 ounces of pumpkin puree
-2T coconut oil
-2 sweet potatoes
-1 1/2C brown rice or white rice
-7oz of frozen spinach
– 4 carrots chopped
-12oz green beans
-12oz peas
-2C water
– 1/3C of beef liver chopped
-5t of calcium
optional: 1/4t of turmeric powder

Wash all veggies if using fresh and chop into small chunks. Add sweet potatoes and frozen veggies to instant pot, then rice, frozen spinach, meat, pumpkin puree, water, beef liver, and then ground chicken. Add lid to instant pot and pressure cook for 25-35 minutes on high. When timer goes off let sit for 5 minutes and then do a manual release. use masher gadget to get everything mashed and well mixed! I then add 5t of calcium. It tells you on the back of the calcium bottle how much to add per pound! 5t works perfect for this recipe. Serve to dogs warm so please allow time for it to cool before serving it to your pup! This recipe will last 3-4 days in the fridge. I freeze extras and take out of freezer to thaw the night before as needed. My dogs eat this recipe cold but feel free to heat it up if needed.

  1. After watching this vid about your homemade dog food last night in bed. I ran to the market at 6:00am and bought everything except I couldn't find beef liver so of course I left it out. I used a combination of ground turkey and ground pork and all the veggies pumpkin, everything else you mentioned. My dog has not eaten well this whole week and I have been so worried about him. He will not touch his canned food anymore he just won't eat, this is unusual too, I saw him vomit a little on Monday. Since then no luck with food. So I made your recipe here in my dutch oven it was packed to the brim. And while it was cooking on the stove my boy came into the kitchen and kept staring at me…I said to him you know this is for you don't you!?. After food had cooked about 2 hrs and completely done. I let it cool divided it up and the gave my dog a bath, which always makes him nap after he enjoyed that! After his nap was the test.. I put some in he food dish and it ate it ALL he even ate 2nds! I'm over the moon thrilled.thank you thank you for this recipe.it was super easy to make I bought all frozen veggies except the sweet potatoes I used two fresh. I did notice they carried frozen too. I just want to thank you so much for all your work you have done in great quality homemade food for dogs!my dog is 15 yrs, a shelter rescue and a make shih tzu I call him Birdie or Birds. My pet name for him. I'm going on I know but you are a dog lover like I am. And your efforts are so appreciated! I hope everyone tries this recipe who has dogs it's a winner and homemade is BEST! God Bless You! 💐💞

  2. I use Canine Complete powder which add pre/probiotics and all required supplements to my dogs homemade food at each meal. She is very healthy. It is Vet approved and measured by weight shown on the container. I buy beef bones and cook them on low in my crock pot for 24 hours. I take any meat and add it to her food then strain and pour into mason jar the concentrated bone broth that I use in place of water in her food. For chicken bone broth, I use either bone in, skinless chicken using the same slow cooker method, or buy chicken backs and strain it through cheesecloth for concentrated bone broth for chicken or turkey meals. The mason jars are placed in the freezer and keeps for 3 months.
I appreciate your videos although the overuse of 'you guys' is well, you know…… 😉

  3. Dogs are carnivores. There's literally no need for this many veggies. This makes it high in carb and plant protein. Whole animal should be used for natural 80/10/10 and they'd only get what veg their prey ate.

  4. I made this 5/31/22 last night and My 60 lb. 15 yr old Treeing Walker Coonhound gives it 2 paws up!
I was just wondering how many calories per cup do you think is in this recipe. Unless I missed it, but I think
I can give Benjamine 1 1/2 cups twice a day. I think that I may want to alternate every other week with
a raw died though. I love this recipe thank you for sharing.

  5. Thank you!!! I made your recipe last night and the dogs went nuts. They had been on a food strike. I couldn't change up the food because my little one has diabetes, but I would add in some the commercial add-ins. That worked for a while but lately they haven't wanted to eat and I was besides myself. I got the green light from my vet to try your diet and they LOVE it! I loved my Instant Pot, but now I love it even more.

  6. Messing with mineral can cause electrolyte disturbance and imbalance so be VERY mindful of what you are doing. I supplement high quality dog wet food with human grade dog food because we cannot get their diets right on our own as much as we want to believe we can. Calcium SUPPLEMENTS are known to cause severe side effects in humans and Vit D is deadly. Get VERY specific with your vet or holistic pet advisor before you try anything on your own. This is MUCH more serious than you might believe.

  7. Thank you for your video. I have a Westie that has yeast issues, a Golden Lab, and a Chihuahua. I can not find a good kibble food and I don't trust even the most expensive ones. I'm going to make your recipe but could you give me an estimated amount I need daily to feed the 3 different sizes and weight? Thank you for making the video.

  8. My pups have been on your recipe for a few weeks now. I've already noticed my 12 year old Peke-a-Pom is much more active and has a pep in his step now. 🙂 Have you ever calculated the calories per serving in this recipe? I've never made homemade dog food before. I've read so much information on the net and so many say your dog should get "this many calories". Thank you for taking the time and effort to put these videos together!!!!

  9. I do pretty much the same things as you do with yours, but I use chicken thighs. I cook the thighs with skins on, and bones in, with a little bit of organic better than bullion, and a bit of water. Then put all of it in the pan with the rest of it. . I also add black and red beans, and eggs. . . I save the shells, rinse them out, dry them, and put them through a Ninja Bullet until powder. then put them in the food while I'm mixing it all together. .I have 2 dogs as well, so when I go to feed them, I will take a banana, half it, and put 1/2 in each bowl, along with either half an apple, or some blueberries. they LOVE that! . . Great job with it! I started doing this years ago when my dogs both got parvo. . . AND LIVED! After that, I spoiled them rotten! lol . . Now I have 2 different dogs, since my guys are gone now. .

  10. Your presentation is so enlightening. It has made my day and my 5 Chihuahua mixes will do better no doubt. I read how inferior dog foods, even most premium brands are. That was it!!! to end dog food from the store, when a factory was washing out colon meat from road kill to dehydrate!

  11. I'm sooooo happy I found your video. My Coco got sick on some of the food I was giving her so I'm now going to try this. One question, I don't have an instapot so can I assume that I can use my reg big pot to cook for her? Thanks again and I look forward to making my homemade dog food and having Coco finally be happy at mealtime.

  12. Love this video, always thought they needed kibbles for teeth. Do they get bones? Gonna start cooking this weekend. I spend so much money on frozen homemade food at pet store. I mix with Origen dog kibble. Ordering those bowls too. My 10 week beagle pup eats in seconds. Miss piggy. Lol
