Vegan Sweet and Spicy Seitan Recipe
How to make this delicious vegan sweet and spicy seitan recipe. In this recipe we make the seitan from scratch. This recipe is perfect for lunch or dinner if you are craving for that take-out Asian food but can’t get it!
For the homemade seitan, to a bowl add:
1 cup + 2 tbsp vital wheat gluten flour
2 tbsp nutritional yeast
1/4 salt tsp
1/8 tsp black pepper
Mix and set aside.
To a separate bowl mix:
1/2 cup tomato sauce
1 tbsp vinegar
1/4 cup water
1 tbsp oil
1 clove garlic
Combine the wet And dry making sure you don’t knead it and keep in small pieces.
Fry the seitan pieces for 10-15 min or until crispy. Add the sauce.
Sauce:
1/2 cup soy sauce
3 tbsp agave nectar
3 tbsp brown sugar
Garlic mince to taste
Ginger mince to taste
Chili flakes to taste
Cook until sauce had evaporated and seitan is sticky and crispy.

This is so simple yet so delicious, great recipe, thanks irene! One thing I would add; that amount of soy sauce is way too much if you're using regular soy sauce(kikkoman for me), a couple tablespoons are plenty, also the seitan sticking together was never an issue so I would just toss them all together in a pan, as long as they fit in the pan level. Make more easy recipes like this, I love them 🙂

When you say 'tomato sauce' what do you mean? Ketchup? Pasta sauce from a jar? Tomato puree (paste)?

I tried this today!!! Amazingly good!! I made it with white rice and vegan Mac n Cheese. Only thing I did a little different was since I didn’t have tomato paste I used ketchup and boil a few chick peas. Mixed that in and it came out yum yum. Thanks for the recipe
