Turai is also known as Tori, Turiya in Gujarati and Peerkangai in Tamil. In Maharashtra it is popular by the name of Dodaka. Ridge Gourd is the English name.

Turai or Ridge Gourd Vegetable is easy to cook with basic ingredients from pantry and is a delicious, wholesome everyday sabzi or vegetable main course option. The recipe is Gluten Free, Vegan and Diabetic Friendly.

Turai or tori is one of the most underrated vegetable in the Indian cuisine. The bland taste and neutral flavor of turai is the reason a lot of people dislike it. I have always loved vegetables, including turai and I have a couple of really simple yet delicious turai recipes. This one is a Maharashtrian style turai ki sabzi and has a light broth or rassa.

Ridge Gourd medically referred to as Luffa acutangula is also known as tori, turai, tori, beerkaya, gilki, and beerakai in several languages in India. It is extremely rich in dietary fiber and enriched with other nutrients that include vitamin-c, zinc, iron, and traces of other minerals. It also aids in weight loss because itโ€™s low in saturated fat, cholesterol, and calories.
