The Best Keto Mashed Potato Recipe | Not Cauliflower | Not Radish | Mashed Kohlrabi Recipe

It may seem like a bold claim to call this the best keto mashed potato recipe, but I truly think that it is. While I love cauliflower mash and radish mash, they never really felt like keto mashed potatoes to me. It was always super apparent what they were made of. Kohlrabi was the solution! Kohlrabi is very low in carbs, and has similar macros to cauliflower, but it tastes much more like a potato to me! There is a hint of sweetness on the end, but it’s hardly noticeable unless you’re looking for it. This base recipe for mashed kohlrabi can be easily modified into a keto garlic mashed potatoes, or basically anything else that you can think of.

  1. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe!! I just made it and will be making this regularly from now on…it was very good. (I was always dissapointed greatly with "cauliflower mashed potatoes") Next time, I will try this in my Vitamix to get it even smoother and I'll double or triple it because it was that good. Who knew boiled Kolrabe would be so similar to potatoes?! This has opened up a world of possibilities for me.

  2. I made this last night and have to say that this really is the BEST mashed potato recipe … ever! I've tried all the variations of mock mashed potatoes using cauliflower, radishes, etc., but none come close to the taste/texture of this kohlrabi-based dish. It truly has the texture and "feel" of mashed potatoes, but more-importantly, it tastes very close to the real thing! Although Kohlrabi comes from the cruciferous family (cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, etc.), it does not have the strong cruciferous smell that the others have.

My preparation came out a bit "wet", so I'm going to try what we do with cauliflower in the micro (uncovered) to see it it won't cook and dry the kohlrabi a bit. Can't wait to make more of this with amendments like garlic, cheddar, herbs.

I am also going to try taking Kohlrabi to the next level … Mock Potato Salad!

Thanks again Tom for such a great recipe!

  3. I have eaten color Robbie for years normally I eat it raw I peel it and make it in the sticks and put them in my veggie trays and everyone always ask what they are they’ve never had them before but I have never cooked them but I will definitely try this because normally I use radishes in my homemade soups and everybody thinks they’re a little red potatoes so thank you so much for the new suggestion and they’re very easy to grow in your garden
