Roti canai, or Malaysian flatbread, also known as roti cane and roti prata, is an Indian-influenced flatbread dish found in several countries in Southeast Asia, including Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia and Singapore.

RECIPE
[INGREDIENTS]
Flour 300g
Cooking oil 30ml
Sugar 2tsp
Salt 1tsp
Water 200ml

[METHOD]
1. Combine the flour, salt and sugad in a bowl. Add the water and stir to combine. Use your hands to bring the dough together in the bowl. Turn onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 15 minutes or until smooth and let it rest for 30min.
2. Flatten the dough into a disc and make about 6 to 8 portion. Each portion coatbwith a layer of oil and let it rest overnight or at least 4 hours.
3. Watch the video how to shape them into roti canai as I have shown two different method which everyone can do.
4. Pan fry the dough until golden brown is ready to serve with your favourite dippings.

  1. Thanks for the recipe, I'm making them now! 🙂 If let the dough rest overnight, do I have to put it in the fridge?
    And may I know how to store the dough? I'm planning to make roti canai for breakfast tomorrow. If I cannot finish them tomorrow can I store them in the fridge? Thanks!

  2. When thinking about home making roti canai seems very hard process to make roti canai but after watching your video mesmerized whereby you have showed two step to flatten the dough. I will for sure try it. Thank you so much. Hope you will upload more vegan recipes.
