  2. Hi Mary! Thank you for your very informative videos! I am very new to canning preserving and pickling. I want to pickle vegetables that I can store for months. What would I do instead of storing these in the fridge? Would I do the water bath? Also, I want to use cauliflower, celery, okra, carrots and jalapenos…would this be an ok combination? I have searched everywhere for this and haven't found anyone using okra and celery in the combination. Thank you very much in advance for any suggestions you have. Elsie

  3. I made your pickled okra but it taste bland. I added the right amount of seasoning that you suggested. I let it sit for 24 hours and then tasted it but know flavor. Can I add more seasoning to it and then put it back in the refrigerator or what do you suggest I do? Thanks 🙏

  4. Hello, Mary.
I've started watching your videos and I think that learning from your teaching is marvelous. My father pickled dilled pickles, hot banana peppers, and mixes of them for hot pickles. But once and a while he wouild pickle whole green tomatoes. Do you have a recipe for pickling green tomatoes? I'm not sure I could do it where I'm living {an apartment). Although, I might try. Anyway, I'm going to start making my own kefir (I think the "e" is pronounced like the "e" in "Ed". I think the "fir" is pronounced like the word "fear". Please keep doing what you are doing. It is thrilling to learn all of these traditional and wonderful things.

  5. I am wondering if I could decrease the vinegar and let it cool a bit then add raw ACV to get to the total vinegar then add to the jars. Or add the hot pickling brine but leave space for the raw ACV to add once it cools in the fridge. That way it would have probiotics. But would that not be food-safe?

  6. I love how your apron changes for the subject of the day!
I grew up in a traditional foods home. It was a very good lady friend of our family whom us kids lovingly referred to as our Aunt Libby. When she was a younger woman, she used to cook for the sheep hands on this sheep ranch here in Oregon. Feeding many men! So in her older years, after our family met her, she baby sat for our parents, and fed us. Oh boy her biscuits and breads! I bake bread now and again just for that whole house smell. I am so very happy to have those memories of her canned cherries, her home made jams and jellies, her pickles!!, and her many "burnt" cinnamon rolls. (She would accidently on purpose burn the first batch so us kids could have them). I can still taste her homemade mincedmeat pies we had at the holidays. I sure miss her, but I am thankful for those wonderful memories.
