  1. I HAVE A TIP for y’all: buy dried shiitake mushrooms in the Asian aisle (or Asian grocer if you have one) bc they’re cheaper. Then put them in a dedicated coffee (or spice) grinder until they become powdery. Add a spoon to any savory dish and you have instant budget-friendly umami!

    I figured this out on my journey to making my favorite recipes plant-based. I don’t like the taste of shiitake mushrooms but they give the most umami out of all the mushrooms. In this form you can’t distinguish their taste.
